How a family-owned facility became Madison’s year-round recreation destination.
Founded in 1955 by George Vitense, a PGA pro and past president of the Wisconsin PGA, Vitense Golfland has long been cherished by the Madison community as an affordable, family-oriented entertainment option. In 2017, Joel Weitz, George’s grandson who’s now at the helm of the facility, was seeking out opportunities to elevate the guest experience and drive repeat visits.
Vitense Golfland became one of the earliest adopters of Toptracer technology when they installed the product in 18 bays in 2017.
Following the success of their initial installation, Vitense added another 18 units—doubling the number of Toptracer bays after just one year. In 2022, they added 20 more. Today, the facility boasts 56 Toptracer-equipped hitting bays in 25 covered (and well-heated) golf suites, which are open year-round.
Sales: “The addition of Toptracer has improved ancillary revenue in all areas. A testament to the quality of the product,” Weitz said. “Toptracer’s bay management system and over-net monitoring are also valuable tools in improving the effectiveness and profitability of our business.”
Programming: Through its golf academy, Vitense offers high-quality, year-round golf instruction from PGA professionals. They also host three popular 18-week leagues using Toptracer—one for men, one for ladies, and one coed, each on a different night of the week.
Food & Beverage: The Signature Hole Grill & Bar at Vitense offers everything from the classic Wisconsin beer brat to fresh-made pizza and an extensive drink menu. All food and beverage orders can be served directly to the golf suites. And in true Dairyland fashion, guests in the mood for a cup or a cone can choose from 16 premium ice cream flavors.
Recognition: Vitense Golfland is consistently ranked as a Top 50 Stand-Alone Range in America by the Golf Range Association of America (GRAA).
