How Glasgow’s golfing destination conquered its sales plateau by elevating its experience.
A mainstay on the Glasgow golf scene for 15 years, Playsport Golf Range boasts a two-level, 56-bay driving range, a 5-bay coaching centre, 9-hole golf course, short game facility, and a thriving membership base of some 500 golfers. While the facility saw success in its first decade of business, Playsport faced a performance plateau from 2011 until the pandemic.
Searching for a way to enhance the driving range with technology and break through its stagnant sales period, Playsport installed Toptracer in all 56 bays in late 2022.
Sales: Toptracer’s impact was felt immediately. In the first 12 months following installation, Playsport saw more than 6.8 million range balls hit, an increase of 2.3 million (or 52%) from the previous year. Financially, this resulted in a 90% increase in revenue: The range brought in £320,000 in 2022 and more than £595,000 in 2023.
Customers: Playsport has become a hub for both returning and new customers. The facility has utilized social media to spread the word about their new, enhanced range. They also believe its proximity to Topgolf’s Glasgow venue, which opened the same week as Playsport’s Toptracer installation, has provided beneficial synergies, bringing more golf enthusiasts to the community.
Programming: The range uses Toptracer to run competitions both internally and in conjunction with other Toptracer-enabled facilities across Scotland. These competitions, like closest to the pin and virtual golf majors, have attracted widespread participation and increased range usage on weeknights.
